Privacy Policy

Knot is built for private communities. This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, and the choices you have.

If you want the short version: we aim to collect the minimum data needed to run the service.

1. Information we collect

Account information

  • Identifiers you provide (e.g., email, phone, display name, handle).
  • Authentication tokens and security signals (for login and abuse prevention).

Content you choose to share

  • Posts, messages, photos, and metadata you upload within your communities.
  • Invite links / QR codes and related membership data (who joined which Knot/Subknot).

Device and usage data

  • Device type, OS version, app version, and basic diagnostics.
  • Approximate usage events (e.g., screen opens, feature usage) if enabled.
If you currently do not collect some items above (analytics, diagnostics), remove them now. Policies should match reality.

2. How we use information

  • Provide and maintain the service (accounts, invites, community membership).
  • Deliver user-requested features (sharing, messaging, organizing spaces).
  • Prevent abuse, spam, and security incidents.
  • Improve reliability (crash reports, performance monitoring) if enabled.
  • Communicate with you (support, policy updates, service notices).

3. How we share information

We do not sell personal information. We share information only in limited cases:

  • Within your Knot: content is visible to members based on your community settings.
  • Service providers: vendors that help operate the service (hosting, storage, email).
  • Legal: if required to comply with law, enforce terms, or protect users and the public.
  • Business changes: merger/acquisition may transfer data with notice where required.

4. Data retention

  • We retain data as long as needed to provide the service and meet legal requirements.
  • If you delete content or your account, we remove it within a reasonable timeframe, except where required by law.

5. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect information. No system is 100% secure, but we design for safety by default—especially for small, invite-only groups.

6. Your choices and rights

  • Access, update, or delete account information.
  • Request export or deletion of your data (where applicable).
  • Opt out of certain analytics/diagnostics if provided.

7. International transfers

Depending on where you live, your data may be processed in other countries. We take steps to ensure appropriate safeguards where required.

8. Children’s privacy

Knot is not intended for children under the age where parental consent is required by local law. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If changes are material, we will provide notice as required.
